A huge thank you to everyone who purchased from the book fair. Also a huge shoutout to all the staff who donated to the coin war. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to help many students get the books they wanted, even if they were a little short. Our in-person book fair brought in $2,633.72, which is just a bit below last year’s total of $2,800. The online fair is still open through the 20th, and I’ll have flyers for students on how to shop online;
I never expected to spend so much time counting coins this year, but now I know I can borrow a coin counter from the librarian at Northmoor if we do this again next year!
Final Coin Counts by Group:
Amistad: $13.32
Reveur: $18.95
Isibindi: $164.74
Altruismo: $214.67
Total Raised: $411.68! This amount is included in our overall sales total and was used to help students who were a little short or couldn’t purchase a book on their own.
For those who would still like to purchase online:
Please use the following link or QR code to shop our online fair! Even though the in person fair will close Thursday afternoon, online shopping can continue through 11/20. Please share with family and friends as well!

You may have already heard some new procedures in the classrooms as your students come home to share their day with you. We have made it our goal to add new aspects to the classroom to make all of us 1% better in different areas in our development of our future leaders. You will see:
Students standing to share answers with their classmates (speaking to an audience, building their confidence)
Students celebrating their classmates in the classroom ( building community and confidence)
Students using hand signals during lessons ( to show understanding, that they are in agreement, or that they have a different thought/answer)
Students doing the right thing all the time to help another person ( builds community, demonstrates empathy, spreads positive vibes)
Students earning everything grades, House Points, Honors ( develops grit, a sense of accomplishment, and a commitment to hard work)
Teachers facilitating and teaching all these practices (so we develop leaders in our schools and community)
Teachers making lessons fun and meaningful ( we can have really intentional and amazing lessons that add depth of understanding)

The Amazing Shake is Coming to Mark Bills and a Peoria Public Schools District Competition!
|
We are also going to add a personal development and leadership activity this year at Mark Bills known as the Amazing Shake. Students will be competing in a variety of scenarios and role playing activities where they will focus on their manners, discipline, respect and professional conduct. Students will learn to develop the nuances of professional human interaction as they are taught skills such as: "how to give a proper handshake", "how to work a room", "how to give a successful interview", and "how to remain composed under pressure." The goal is to prepare our students so they are able to present themselves exceptionally well for opportunities of today as well as those that will come in the future.
We have already kicked off the first lessons of developing a proper handshake which hopefully you will start seeing in your students' interactions outside of school. Feel free to practice at home and help your students understand the real world value of these soft skills throughout their lives.
Winners of our in-house competition will compete against the best in the District in December with the possibility of attending the global Amazing Shake competition at Ron Clark Academy.

The House System at Mark Bills is up and going strong. We are using it to support our Social Emotional Learning for our students as a partner program with our 7 Mindsets program. The House System includes a huge emphasis on developing the whole student so we can really help develop our students into leaders of the community. Soft skill development, community service, peer relationships, teamwork, etc,, are important mindsets we want to strengthen in our your leaders. Our first house meeting, for Team R
eveur was a huge success, it had great energy and it was great to see our students from all grade levels coming together for a common goal.
** Make sure HOUSE SHIRTS are only worn on house days, otherwise it's the standard uniform or spirit wear shirt for all other days.
