AVID Signing Day

📀 “Dear Teachers & Seniors: You’re All That"

and a Bag of Popcorn 🍿

This week is all about the people who make Peoria High what it is. We’re throwing it back 90s-style to show love to our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week—with dress-up days based on your favorite 90s jams, snacks to keep us going, and shoutouts for the folks who show up every single day.

And on Thursday, it’s time to honor the seniors who’ve done it right—students who’ve excelled in and out of the classroom for the last four years. Honors Day is about lifting up the Lions who’ve led the way and left a legacy. This week is a celebration of growth, impact, and the village that makes it all happen.

🍎 Teacher Appreciation Week – 90s Style

We’re bringing back all the 90s energy to celebrate our staff. Each day is a nod to a classic 90s song and the people who make PHS run:

  • Monday – “Sippin' on Coffee and Juice” – PJ Day (sponsored by the Sophomores)

  • Tuesday – “You're All That and a Bag of Popcorn” – 90s Music/TV/Movie Day (sponsored by PRIDE Team)

  • Wednesday – “Sugar, Sugar, How’d Ya Get So Fly?” – 90s Workout Day
    ⏰ Early Dismissal – 10:30 AM

  • Thursday – “When I Dip, You Dip, We Dip” – Dress Up to Impress for Honors Day (sponsored by PPTO)

  • Friday – “OMG Becky Look at That Lunchable!” – PHS Spirit Wear (sponsored by Admin Team)

🎓 HONORS DAY – Thursday, May 8 @ 9:00 AM

We’re celebrating seniors who’ve excelled in and out of the classroom over their four years at Peoria High. These students have earned it—on the field, in the halls, and in the books.

  • 🕣 Doors open at 8:30 AM

  • 🚗 Families should park in the Pool Lot and enter through the Complex Gym doors on Richmond

  • 👩‍🎓 Honored seniors and their guests will attend in person

  • 📺 9th–11th graders will stream the event in their 2nd-hour classrooms

  • 🎥 Streaming link coming soon!

📌 Honors Day Practice – Wednesday, May 7 @ 8:45 AM in the Wrestling Room (Mandatory for all seniors)

🛥️ Junior Class Trip

Juniors going on the trip must pick up and return their permission slip from Dr. Tate. Any questions? Call the office.

✅ Senior Checkout Week

Seniors should be checking off the following:

  • Turn in textbooks, STREAMs, and Yondr pouch

  • Complete FAFSA

  • Submit all required School Links items

  • Knock out any missing work

Don't leave any loose ends.

🧠 7 Mindsets – The Time is Now: Let Yourself Be Vulnerable

This week’s mindset encourages students to take risks, open up, and keep growing—even when it’s uncomfortable.

How you can help at home:

  • Ask them what they’re nervous to try but want to do

  • Share a time you had to step out of your comfort zone

  • Celebrate small wins when they show courage—big or small

Confidence comes from trying. Let’s help them build it.

🚨 Attendance Reminder

We’ve improved 3.92% in attendance from last year. Let’s hold steady and hit that 5% goal by the end of May.

📞 If your student misses 2+ days, please email, call or text us. Let's continue to move the needle!

Let’s celebrate our teachers, show love to our seniors, and keep all students focused. We’re not done yet.

Onward. Forward. 🐾

The daily school hours are 7:00 am – 2:30 pm. The building opens daily for students at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast is available in the cafeteria until 7:30 a.m. Students are expected to be inside their classroom when the 7:30 a.m. bell rings. Students arriving after 7:30 a.m. must enter through the atrium doors (rear parking lot).

At the end of the day, students must leave the building if they are not with an adult sponsor/coach. Buses leave 10 minutes after school dismissal.

Students are allowed limited hall passes (restrooms & the school nurse). Please speak with your student about the importance of classroom instructional time and the safety of always having adult supervision.

All Peoria Public Schools have a closed campus which means students cannot leave the building throughout the school day for food or other errands.  No outside food/beverages (for example, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Polar Pops, etc.) are allowed in the building.  Students may bring a “cold” lunch to be eaten during their lunch period. We do have microwaves available for cold lunches.

Please note - All PPS high school boys and girls Spring sporting events are only open to eligible* students who attend the home school. Eligibility is based on monthly academics, attendance, and behavior. See the Student Handbook page 9.

When PPS high schools are playing each other (MHS, PHS, RHS), only eligible* students from the two competing schools may attend.

Adults are welcome to attend all PHS events. Primary/middle school students can attend with a parent/guardian and must remain with the adult(s) the entire game.

*Students will need to check with their school administrators for eligibility status.
