PRIDE beats Negativity

This week is a big one at Peoria High. Progress Reports go home Wednesday giving every student a checkpoint to stop, look at where they stand, and make a plan to move forward. That’s the power of our Act and Adjust mindset: see what’s working, change what’s not, and keep pushing.

At the same time, our PRIDE Team embraced the Think Positive Mindset from last week and took all the negatives people have ever said about our school and flipped them into positives to design Spirit Week. It’s a clear message: PRIDE Beats Negativity. Nobody else gets to write our story. We do.

And to cap it off, Friday night is our first home football game. After a huge 42-0 win on the road at Centennial, it’s time to bring that energy back to our house. When Peoria Stadium is packed with maroon and black, it’s more than football. It’s a celebration of our school, our students, and our community standing together.

📞 ATTENDANCE MATTERS
We’ve hit 90% attendance school-wide (UP 3%!) one of the first times in the last several years! That’s a big step forward for The Pride, but we’re not stopping there. When students SHOW UP, they put themselves in position to learn, grow, and stay on track. Remember, 95% attendance means your student is considered college and career ready. Absences happen, but every day in class counts. Thank you for helping us keep our students present and prepared.

  • Absent? Call us at 309-672-6630 extension: 40096 or Email: ANGELA.SIERRA@PSD150.ORG

  • 2+ absences? Our staff and support staff will reach out to make a plan.
We’re here to help students stay on track—not just academically, but socially and emotionally too.

✅ Eligibility Posted THIS WEEK!
All-School Eligibility is determined by the following behavior, attendance, and/or grade criteria (BAG):

  • Students with Ds or Fs in 2 or more classes on most recent grade report.
    ⭐NEW THIS YEAR!!!

  • Students with 2 or more unexcused absences within the last 30 days.

  • Students suspended for fighting or reckless conduct are ineligible for the remainder of the semester.

Can be found on the Concession Stand Doors during Lunches.

📱 Phones

Starting tomorrow, students will have the opportunity to keep the focus on learning by:

  • Putting their phone in a Yondr pouch at arrival, or handing it over to be secured for the day.

  • If a phone is hidden and later found, it will be a parent pick up.

  • Any phone seen after arrival will also be a parent pick up.

  • Headphones and iPads must stay in bookbags. If they’re seen during the day, they will be collected.

This is about opportunity. Students have the chance to start the day making the right choice so the focus stays on learning. Every minute in class matters.

👥 Behavior Reminder

Fighting and major disruptions will be addressed seriously. Restorative conversations are always the first step, but ongoing or severe issues can lead to alternative placements.

We have more than 150 adults in this building ready to help your student. If they have an issue, they need to go to one of them instead of trying to handle it themselves.

🩺 Freshman Physicals & Senior Immunizations
A quick reminder from Nurse Baker:

  • Freshmen must turn in a current physical.

  • Seniors must turn in updated immunization records.

These are due by October 15th. You can drop them off at school or email them to:

🌟 7 Mindsets – Act and Adjust

This week is all about action. Do something, get feedback, and then adjust. That’s how progress happens. That’s how we beat negativity.

👉 Parent Connection: At home this week, ask your student two quick questions:

  1. What’s one thing you’re proud of so far this quarter?

  2. What’s one adjustment you can make to finish stronger?

SHOW UP. OWN EVERYTHING. HUNT EXCELLENCE.

If your student needs a new Yonder Pouch they need to see our Treasurer Ms. GINA.DAILEY@PSD150.ORG to pay $30 for the replacement. Then Ms. AMY.DENSON@PSD150.ORG will then issue them a new pouch.

😷 Medical Mask
Students should not be wearing medical masks at school without a note from a parent or doctor. If your student has a note, they should see Nurse Maggie so she can notify all of their teachers.

Major disruptions, including fights, will be addressed seriously and can lead to significant consequences. If your student is having an issue with someone, they must seek out an adult immediately instead of trying to handle it themselves.
