💯 Be Authentic

First, a BIG thank you to all our parents and to our PRIDE Team for making Homecoming such a success. The pep rally with the gym unveiling, the game, the dance, and the decorations all showed what happens when our school and community come together for our kids.

Now Homecoming is behind us and Quarter 2 is here. We have one full week before Fall Break and it is the perfect time for students to reset, refocus, and get moving in the right direction. Our focus this week is Be Authentic. Being authentic means showing up as your real self and backing it up with your actions. That looks like being on time to class, turning in assignments, encouraging each other, and owning your choices.

🔔 Parent Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held Tuesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 2 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Parents should enter through the Atrium both days.

  • Tuesday, Sept 30: Many of our teachers will also be out on Home Visits to connect with families during the conference window. Our goal is to reach as many parents as possible. We will still have counselors and teachers from each department in the building to assist you.
At 5:00 pm we will have a Senior Parent Meeting in the Auditorium to cover senior reminders, graduation requirements, and a financial aid presentation on FAFSA. From 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Room 234 we will also have an FSA ID Workshop to help families prepare for the 2026–2027 FAFSA which is a graduation requirement.

  • Thursday, Oct 2: Conferences in our Foyer area. All teachers will be in the building to meet with parents.

📚 D2 Parent Meeting
Families interested in the D2 program can attend the meeting at Peoria High on Tuesday, September 30 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Library. This program allows students to earn their high school diploma and an associate’s degree at the same time by attending ICC full-time during junior and senior year.

🩺 Freshman Physicals & Senior Immunizations
From Nurse Baker:

  • Freshmen must turn in a current physical

  • Seniors must submit updated immunization records

All records are due by October 15. Drop them off at school or email MARGARET.BAKER@PSD150.ORG

🎓 Senior Updates
Seniors with Edgenuity classes must come to Peoria High from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm the first week of Fall Break, October 6 through 10. Dr. Tate and I will be here providing lunch and support. If they don’t show we will be calling, texting, and stopping by houses. Graduation is too important to miss. Families please help us by making sure your student attends.

📞 Attendance Matters
We stayed steady at 89% attendance AGAIN this week, and every point matters. 95% attendance = college and career ready. Absences happen, but we can’t afford unexcused ones.

If your student is absent, please call 309-672-6630 ext. 40096 or email ANGELA.SIERRA@PSD150.ORG.

  • Unexcused absences count toward eligibility

  • If your student racks up 2+ absences, staff will reach out to make a plan. We’re here to support both academics and social-emotional needs

📝 Mini Lesson for Parents: Be Authentic
Here’s a quick way to bring this week’s theme home:

  • Ask: “What’s one area of your life where you feel the most like yourself?”

  • Listen: Let your student talk without jumping in or correcting them.

  • Challenge: Ask them, “How can you bring that same real version of yourself into school this week?”

This simple check-in helps students see that authenticity is about actions lining up with values, not just words.

✌🏾Outro
Thank you for all you do. Quarter 2 is here and we got a handful of days to stack before. Let's Show Up, Own Everything, Hunt Excellence. Remind our kids that being authentic means being real, being focused, and being ready to do the hard work.

1615: Show Up. Own Everything. Hunt Excellence.

🎯Schoolwide Goals 2025 - 2026

✅ Reduce Chronic Absenteeism
Every day matters. We can’t teach students who aren’t here.

✅ Increase Freshman On-Track & Graduation Rate
We’re building stronger foundations and finishing strong.

✅ Increase Student Proficiency on the ACT
We’re sharpening skills and expanding opportunity.

📊 Data Snapshot

  • Freshman On Track: 86% (Goal 88%)

  • Seniors On Track: 82% (Goal 80%)

  • Schoolwide Attendance: 89% (Goal 95%)

  • Chronic Absenteeism: 35% (Goal 36% or less)

Parents this is where you can help. Encourage your student to show up every day, be on time, and get their work done. Every day matters.

🔑 Arrival & Entry Procedures

  • Doors open at 7:00 AM

  • Buses will drop off at the foyer doors on North Street.

  • Car riders should be dropped off at the back Atrium entrance.

  • All students must pass through a security check each morning.

  • After 7:30 AM, the Atrium entrance is the only one open for student entry.

🎒 Backpack, Backpack

Beginning October 15th, we are moving to a clear backpack policy for all students.

Students are encouraged to use their lockers to store backpacks, coats, and any other non-classroom items.

📵 Cell Phones & Yondr Pouches

Peoria High is a cell phone free school during the day. All students are expected to secure their phones in a Yondr pouch.

  • Putting their phone in a Yondr pouch at arrival, or handing it over to be secured for the day.

  • If a phone is hidden in their bag or later found at arrival, it will be a parent pick up.

  • Any phone seen after arrival will also be a parent pick up.

  • Headphones and iPads must stay in bookbags. If they’re seen during the day, they will be collected.

If your student needs a new Yonder Pouch they need to see our Treasurer Ms. GINA.DAILEY@PSD150.ORG to pay $30 for the replacement. Then Ms. AMY.DENSON@PSD150.ORG will then issue them a new pouch.

This is about opportunity. Students have the chance to start the day making the right choice so the focus stays on learning. Every minute in class matters.

📘 Student Handbook

All our policies—from dress code to behavior expectations—are available in the Student Handbook. Please take time to review it with your student. We will also discuss expectations, eligibility and more at our class meetings.
👉 Student Handbook

✅ Eligibility
All-School Eligibility is determined by the following behavior, attendance, and/or grade criteria (BAG):

  • Students with Ds or Fs in 2 or more classes on most recent grade report.
    ⭐NEW THIS YEAR!!!

  • Students with 2 or more unexcused absences within the last 30 days.

  • Students suspended for fighting or reckless conduct are ineligible for the remainder of the semester.

😷 Medical Mask
Students should not be wearing medical masks at school without a note from a parent or doctor. If your student has a note, they should see Nurse Maggie so she can notify all of their teachers.

🚫 Disruptions & Fights
Major disruptions, including fights, will be addressed seriously and can lead to significant consequences. We focus on resolving conflicts through restorative conversations and interventions first, but ongoing or severe issues may result in alternative learning settings. We have over 150 adults in the building ready to help students work through conflicts. If your student is having an issue with someone, they must seek out an adult immediately instead of trying to handle it themselves.
