February: Black History Month — Courage, Culture, and Community

As we wrap up February, let’s continue working together toward our goal of a Five-Peat for Most Improved Attendance. Reaching this goal truly takes all of us being here every single day and behaving in ways that support learning—meeting school expectations, showing respect to others, and staying in class to learn. After all, learning is the #1 reason we are here.

This week, we kicked off the first round of our 3-on-3 basketball tournament, our celebration for earning our Most Improved Attendance Four-Peat. The teams were incredibly competitive, and the level of teamwork and sportsmanship was amazing to see. Great job to all of our Vikings for bringing the energy and excitement!

As we come to the close of Black History Month, we continue to celebrate the many life-changing contributions of African Americans to our society. Just a few powerful examples of inventions that changed how we live include:

🚦 The modern traffic signal, which helps keep people safe on roads every day

🏠 The home security system, which improved safety for families

💡 Improvements to the light bulb filament, helping lighting last longer and work better

🚚 Refrigerated trucks, which allow food and medicine to be safely transported across the country

🔫 The Super Soaker, a fun invention that became a favorite toy for millions of children

These innovations remind us how creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance can make a lasting impact on the world.

Please continue to visit our Facebook page for school updates, photos, and celebrations. Thank you for helping us finish February strong—and for supporting our Vikings by making attendance and learning a daily priority.

School Uniform Policy

Cell Phones & Bookbags

We are enforcing no cell phones from 7:30 - 2:30 each day. Students have a Yondr pouch assigned to them. Each morning when students enter the building, they must either power down their phone or put it in airplane mode (to preserve the battery) and lock it in their pouch.

Clear backpacks are also required this year. We have two options for families. First, you can purchase a district clear backpack for $20 from the main office. Second, you can attend a school event to receive a clear Von Steuben backpack.
