Celebrating September, Charging into October

As we wrap up September, we celebrate the truth that strong starts make strong years! Our Vikings have already accomplished so much in these first weeks of school.

House activities have been filled with energy and pride as students learned their chants and cheers and played in a dodgeball competition. It has been wonderful to see our students learning, laughing, and building community together.

Our school attendance continues to be a bright spot—we’ve maintained an average of 93% attendance, with several days reaching as high as 96%. That is amazing! At the same time, our chronic absenteeism is hovering around 24%. Together, we can bring that number down. Every Viking matters, and when everyone is present, we can plan even more house activities on Fridays.

Last week, we wrapped up our first quarter of the year. We are excited to start the second quarter strong so that we can head into fall break on Friday with confidence and no worries.

Looking ahead, we are eager to welcome families to Parent-Teacher Conferences this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 4–7 p.m. Students have prepared to share their progress in both academics and attendance with their families. This is also another chance for houses to earn points! The house with the highest parent or guardian attendance at conferences will earn 20 house points. With only 80 points separating the first- and second-place houses, every point counts!

Thank you for partnering with us in making September a strong start for the year. We can’t wait to see what October brings for our Vikings!

Basketball & Cheer Season

We had a very busy week of athletics here at the Viking Village last week.

We wish to welcome Coach Pearson as she leads our cheer teams this year. Our Vikings brought all the energy to clinic and tryouts last week. We will meet our teams very soon.

We also welcome Coach Duckworth who will lead our basketball teams this year. Those tryouts took place last week as well.

Let's come together to support our teams at the first game on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Lincoln at 4:00 or the Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 25, starting at 8 a.m. at Woodruff.

6th Grade Immunization Deadline - Oct. 15

Let's meet the deadline for our immunization requirements so we can avoid any medical exclusions. Right now, 77% of our 6th graders have met the requirements or have proof of an appointment in order to avoid medical exclusion. Please reach out to Nurse McKenzie at mckenzie.payton@psd150.org or 309-672-6561 for more information.

Free Tutoring Available

America Reads is a free tutoring program that pairs kids grades K-8 with a Bradley student to help them with reading comprehension, but if needed they can also help with homework. Starting September 22nd, these sessions are 45 minutes at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and kids can attend up to three sessions per week. These sessions take place on Bradley's campus. See the link on the flyer for the application to enroll your child today.

School Uniform Policy

Reminders

We are enforcing no cell phones from 7:30 - 2:30 each day. Students have a Yondr pouch assigned to them. Each morning when students enter the building, they must either power down their phone or put it in airplane mode (to preserve the battery) and lock it in their pouch.

Clear backpacks are also required this year. We have two options for families. First, you can purchase a district clear backpack for $20 from the main office. Second, you can attend a school event to receive a clear Von Steuben backpack.
